School is not easy. Many (if not all) students will agree with that statement. However, it is even harder to go back to school when you have not studied for so long. Today, more and more adults are hitting the books again after long years of a study break. You might not have thought of going back to school ever, but find yourself in those long university admission lines. Many adults today are going back to school because of different reasons.
Whatever your reason may be for going back to school, you must be prepared to plunge into academics once again. To know if going back to school is the right choice for the moment, here are some questions you need to ask yourself before making that decision.
What will you specifically accomplish by going back to school? As an adult, you already have your hands full with a lot of responsibilities—a family being one of the biggest and most common. If there are other ways of professional growth aside from going back to school (especially as a full time student), it might be better to explore those options first before resorting to a hectic adult student life.
Is now the right time? Is your family prepared and supportive of your schooling? Does your schedule and the schedule of your kids and spouse give your room to go to school and do homework? The ages of your children play a big role in this decision too. Are they toddlers? Why not wait until the start school before you go back to school yourself? This could lighten the pressure on you and your family.
How will you pay for schooling? Do you still have outstanding school loans from previous programs? You might want to reconsider going back to school and focusing on paying those off first.
